I was drafted in May of 1969. My Father had been drafted in 1940 at age 35. He was at Normandy. My Uncle Chester was a Marine at Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. My Uncle Tony was in the Navy (Seabee) at North Africa, Sicily, Salerno and Iwo Jima. My Uncle Harry was in the US Army Air Corps, B-17s bombing Germany. My Uncle Wilbur was Us Army, Pacific Theatre. My Father told me if I ran from the draft, he would track me down and turn me in. I served 30 years. My son was a US Marine, I swore him in, He is retired. My Grandson is in year 15 with the United States Air Force. We NEVER run and ALWAYS serve!

My parents both grew up in Harlem in the 40s through the 60s. Going back even further, my paternal grandfather was a part of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s. He was a jazz musician who associated with the likes of Langston Hughes, Duke Ellington and Lena Horn. His son, My father had 13 brothers and sisters who grew up in loving, fun family where big parties were held, and many black actors and Jazz musicians would come by for dinner. I heard it was amazing. Sad to say, during the late 50s and early 60s, my father got involved with wrong ppl and made bad decisions. Started using heroin and other drugs which pulled him down drastically. The family was very sad see my father this way try to get him help, which was on and off. Eventually, happy to say, he finally kicked the habit of drugs through a methadone program. So by the time I was born in 1970, he was already drug free. The story goes on, but the point is even though there's despair in Harlem, there are success stories like my father. You can make it out. You just have to get help and have perseverance. I wish everybody happiness and peace in all your endeavors.

Several people seem to have misjudged the audience as being lacklustre. This looks to me like a low key groovy programme from 1973. Mainstream chat shows would have floor managers pumping up audience reaction but this, to me, appears to be one of those where the audience are most probably all under 30, into Pink Floyd and Monty Python, and either 'high' or cool. Same thing would happen if an underground band would play in a studio. The kids would sit crosslegged on the floor, relaxed, unforced and just enjoying it without being demonstrative in return. Frankly I miss that kind of TV. It was cool.
